Lenten Devotional
This series of devotionals is here to guide us through the season of spring that leads right into Easter.
Let’s learn more about what Jesus endured while He was here on earth, and specifically his 40 days in the desert.
My hope and prayer is that we will push ourselves to create rhythms of fasting, repentance, and genuine givingin honor of Him!

Day Three
Consider why Lent is celebrated for forty days before Easter. What is so special about the number forty?

Day Four
Fasting can allow a deeper connection to God, but only if you are consciously seeking to add Him back into the space you just cleared out.

Day Five
Do you need God to humble you, cause you to hunger, and then give you His Word in a way that will teach you to depend on Him?

Day Six
While the Israelites tested God because they had no faith, the prophet Malachi is calling people to test God so that their faith will be strengthened and God’s goodness will be put on display.

Day Seven
As I keep reminding you, Lent calls each of us to prepare our hearts for Easter. When we read about how Jesus was tested in the wilderness, we ourselves may feel called to fast, pray, and give in ways that far outweigh our normal practices. Can you see how forty days of fasting affected Jesus’ words in His response to Satan?

Day Eight
It’s so easy for me to judge the Israelites who I have read about in Exodus. Why did Aaron craft that golden calf, and why did they want to worship it? Yet, do I fall back into habits from my past and create idols in my life too? Keep in mind that an idol is something that you put above God.

Day Nine
In the Old Testament, Moses spoke to the Israelites about worshiping God alone. While they may not have been bowing down to Satan, they did bow down and worship idols. They needed this command to worship only God, and so do we!
Jesus modeled how to respond to Satan’s promptings here on earth. Can we learn from Him?

Day Ten
While Jesus was tested, He didn’t take the devil’s bait. As we prepare our hearts for Easter, my hope is that we can grow into a deeper dependence on and trust in God’s provision.

Day Eleven
There will always be so much to learn, and I think prayer is one of the points that needs to be delved into again and again. As we grow in our faith and knowledge, we want to learn how to pray because it is part of how we grow our relationship with our Heavenly Father.
